I've been neglecting this poor blog, but that will be changing soon (I accidentally created two google accounts so trying to recall which is which has been a bit of a nightmare). I'm ramping up to produce a really nice portfolio for Disney again this year but it doesn't seem that talent development is running, at least by the lack of information on their site.

Oh well! I'll try anyway, knock my head against their door until I get head trauma or they open it.

I LACK PERSISTENCE) and I went down to van in september to attend the Pixar Masterclass and it was AWESOME. And they told me there was no reason i'm not getting hired SO WHERE IS MY JOB.

Trying to get back in to the groove, I did a painting- my first try at actually painting something (rather than depending on lineart) since I did that Ebony Black painting two? years ago. Three, i think!! Good lord, time is flying.

Anyways, http://www.woodyart.blogspot.com and http://www.artsammich.blogspot.com (classmates, you will remember me showing you them before haha) did a really interesting fun thing- take a disney colouring book lineart, and paint it like an old school painting. (http://www.yumedust.deviantart.com also did a beautiful Sleeping Beauty)

This was obnoxiously fun but i think i might uh. Not be able to recreate this success hahaha. Working on some portfolios- its weird being so far away from the hub, I haven't any idea who is hiring or what is going on in animation or whatnot. That used to be really depressing but now I'm sort of taking it as a chance to have a lot of time to make my art and drawings really speak for me and who I am- no more of "what do I think Disney will want to see". I'm done trying to be someone I'm not for the sake of a job- but at the same time, I have a list in my head of things that i really would like to be better at, mostly things that most of my images generally lack (like backgrounds) but also posing, group images, storyboarding, painting styles, more finalized items- generally, I want my stuff to look more finished. I think we can all agree that I've got a pencil under control, but my other stuff... ehhh.

...I post pictures unrelated to the topic LOL. These are multitudes of images I've done over the course of the last couple of weeks for the art shop I work for on gaiaonline. Since all of these characters will grow over time, due to the people who own them RPing them, it is a good experiment in how things grow and how i draw and colour.

And just a couple random images. YAY for sailor moon. Random sailor scout LOL.

In retrospect, i have drawn and coloured A LOT. I still have to scan about a billion images that I drew on paper, so expect another blog post with as many pics LOL These were drawn in about a 1 month period.

Tons of Character Designs for Wyrding U

For the past two days, I've been in a glut of character design. Its been fantastic fun, and these guys are definitely a huge improvement over my last try at them.

I am working towards doing some comic pages for this project, I need to work out a plotline (GASP. I have no real plotline as of yet, just ideas for short vignettes)

Tamara doesn't have a style per se, but she does has some rules for her clothing. Mostly, that they cover most of her, and her summer outfit is about as naked as she gets. She also wears her trench coat most places, and it is pretty much the same coat that Hagrid wears, yet more clean. I was going to give her a pretty tragic past, but I decided against it. Her character didn't call for it, and it was just a callback from my anime story days (as in, parents are either explained away or never mentioned) Her bushy hair is my favourite thing to draw!

Alicia; Her style is reminiscent of present/vintage 40's business outfits. She's pretty determined to succeed in the world, and her clothing reflects this. She does wear slacks sometimes, if whatever she is doing calls for it.

Barti is her familiar. He is a mixture of several ugly, mean spirited cats which has bred the beast that is Barti. I'm still not sure exactly how much communication can be had between magic user and familiar.

Oh Elrond. You are a boy and thus hard to draw. I need to work more on him. His design is definately not finalized.

Oh Rajani. You are my most favourite character to draw, and you used to be the hardest for me! Rajani is of East Indian descent, and her familiar is a large tiger cub called Indra (guys name). Rajani is anti-authoritarian because in her opinion, the only authority should be her. Her clothing is very 60's inspired, mostly because they're fun to draw, and also because they were from a pretty rebellious era. Rajani is the "bad" guy but she's not truly bad. OR IS SHE??? I don't know yet, but she is a fun villain who has cool clothes.

No tyrant can be without her right-hand man. Or in this case, ditzy woman. Krystal is one of those catty, annoying, giggly girls who gets on all of our nerves, mostly because she seems to entrance all those of the opposite sex. Krystal's familiar is a lynx, whom I have not drawn yet. She does all of Rajani's dirty work. Her style? As little as she can get away with. If anyone reveals themselves in my comic, it will be her. Probably as some sort of distraction that backfires or something.

ON A DIFFERENT NOTE. i love Bruce Timm's Poison Ivy and felt a strong need to draw her.

I took the night off to work on this stuff and to relearn how to colour in photoshop, because i could NOT remember how to do it. Though this might make me a little behind in homework next week, it will help me next semester.

yay for Valkyries! I am doing a valkyrie/norse god model pack/storyboard for gradshow so I am exploring different styles.... I drew the characters as normal teens and then decided i wanted to set it in the past. + it was a class of the titans ripoff LOL.

hahaha, i haven't done ANY work on anything this weekend. I might do some laundry so at least i feel i accomplished something LOL.

^--- Poor, poor Elrond. His mother chooses his clothing and loves the Lord of the Rings, enough that she named him after the elf king. Elrond is part of the Misfits, a small group of students attending Wyrding University, students who don't fit in to the norm of the affluent and dark student body. Elrond is a Scholarship student, and cannot afford new books, clothes that fit, or even a diviner to help him summon a familiar. Without a familiar, his current studies are failing, and it is driving him batty. Tamara becomes instant friends with him, but he fails to notice, and considers her a terrifying nuisance. He is all for propriety and hates breaking the rules, and finds it hard to believe that such a tiny person as Tamara could harbor so much anarchy and rebellion.

^--- I can't draw animals, so I thought this would be a good chance to work on them. The tiger, ugly as sin, is Indra, Rajani's familiar. While most familiars are chatty and talk freely to their masters as well as close friends, Indra is quiet and constantly watches everything that goes on in school. Indra is the self-proclaimed goddess of the university, and Indra is her bodyguard. No one crosses her tiger.

Barti is Alicia's new-found familiar, found by Tamara and Gilly on the first day of the school year. Alicia is from a very affluent family, and while her brother is the President of the student body, Alicia is considered a failure in the black magic department, and her familiar just adds insult to injury. Barti is a tiny, adorable, normal kitten and is disgraceful for a member of the Snowdale family to have such a normal familiar. Barti seems to have something up his sleeves for Alicia.

^--- Ha. Tamara has no sense of propriety. This is her first meeting with Elrond, who she feels deeply attracted to. (Its his ears. They're large) I need to make their poses stronger when i put this to paper for the comic. She needs to be closer to him, and in a more powerful pose. I think that would help a lot.

^---Alicia's older brother, Radolf, and his familiar, Patroclus. Radolf is the perfect gentleman, and Black Warlock, a perfect example of good witchy breeding. Has an unhealthy obsession with tea, and dreams of one day having one named after him. Unfortunately, he also loves poison, and has killed a couple of people with his Belladonna tea and Hemlock Cordial. Won't talk to his sister now that she has bonded with Barti. He is trying to get her to change her last name, as she is besmirching the family name.

^--- Rajani. Possessor of ancient eastern magic, she is in charge of the International Students club in the school, which is her launching point for taking over the student government of Wyrding U. She is an extremely gifted witch, and seems to have an uncommon connection to some of the eastern gods. She is a little on the chubby side, and doesn't care. Although somewhat the villain, she is definately not a black and white character.

Ha, this is the first time i really don't have a plot driven story. My story is driven by an exceptionally old 4 comic pages that i need to find and scan in since they are terrible, and the characters.

As soon as i design Tamara's friends and the Teacher from her High School, i think i may begin the comic. i know what happens in the first chapter, so i am all set. I'll do a sketchy script as well.

I'm working on a short comic idea with these characters. Tamara is the main character, and Alicia is her unwilling friend.

Hard to read are the animals (familiars) names:

Gillyopolous the Quail is Tamara's Familiar. He's fat, spoiled, and in danger of being eaten.

Bartimeus is Alicia's Familiar. He's very self important and egotistical and likes bathing. i should have more to post tonight XD

^--Joan of Arc. I always found her story fascinating; young teen girl, hears the voice of god, and takes on the world of men in order to save France. I mean, come on, she's the most kickass woman ever, the person wholly responsible for books with strong female knights.

^--- Naked Indian girl dancing with a scarf... i'm not entirely sure where i was really going with this, other than wanting to colour it. The original version has a redder scarf, but i like this colouring the best.

Randomly, this sketch looked like Cat from class. So then i made it more like her LOL.

I FAIL AS A PERSON. Mostly because i continuously get new ideas for the digital animation class that I am in, and I HAVE to finish writing an outline of what i am doing by monday. That leaves me very little time to actually decide on something that isn't excruciatingly hard.

SO HERE'S MY NEW IDEA. I randomly remembered an old nursery rhyme i liked, and it goes like this:

Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace.
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living.
But the child who is born on Sabbath Day is bonnie and blithe and good and gay.

At the time, i had NO IDEA what the sabbath day was so LOL at my childhood retardation. I did know the actual connotation of gay, since i was prone to reading little house on the prairie, and they used it as a happy adjective. Same with Little Women (that was on TV. I love that movie. I had a total crush on Laurie as a kid. Still do. Knowing now that it is Christian Bale haha.)

Anyway, i think i might do something with that. Probably in conjunction with my other favourite nursery rhyme.

Davie street is the gay district of Vancouver, and this was our first weekly illustration assigned to us. I really didn't want to do something overtly, stereotypical gay since its not very nice (and its always done this way) So i tried to be a little more subtle?

Well, i scrapped my gorgon idea for animation. I still want to do it someday, but there were too many scenes and too much plot to get out in a very short period of time, since i don't think i will have time to do much more than a minute.

I really wanted to do something greek though, mostly because i love mythology and have loved it for so long that it was the safe option to go on. I get rather ADD when it comes to projects that I am working on.

Are these the finals? NO. Are they even close? NOPE. I don't even have much of an idea of whats going to happen, just some general shots i want to do (thinking like a storyboarder, i guess?)

Oh well, i plan to animate my FAV greek mythological story, Hades and Persephone. But its set in modern times and Hades is a ROCK GOD. Why should zues get all the fun when Hades has dudes to chill with like Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix? Cuz you know they are in Hades, living it up with the man.

LOL.

And to clarify, Hades is not synanomous with Hell. Hades is a place where all spirits go, and there are different planes in it, but i think only one that truly wicked people. or animals. go.

LOL. I need to go to bed so i can get to lifedrawing on time.

Story:

Poor little Gorgon is shunned by everyone, mad that all of the other gods are paired up. She goes to see Cupid for help, and Cupid is currently running a dating service called "unloveable" (which is also the title of the short). Cupid shows her all of the success they have had (hades and persephone, Isis and Osiris (one dead, one alive in both cases XD)) and wins over Georgie, the Gorgon.

She goes on a series of absolutely disasterous dates with diffferent gods, like Bacchus (who drank WAY too much and spews all over her shoes) and narcissus, who spends the entire time looking at himself in mirrors.

Finally, she angrily goes to the dating service office, turns cupid to stone, and goes through his files. While she's doing so, a man enters the office, Azrael, a fallen angel and she doesn't have her sunglasses on, and she freaks out because she didn't want to kill him, but he seems to be fine. And he removes his sunglasses, and his eyes are white and he is blind and they live happily ever after.

YES THIS IS FULL OF CUTE SAP. LIKE ME.

^-- I am poor. So i whore out my drawing skills. And it seems they want ANIMES. That is ok. I am good at animes. But I have too many ANIMES to do this summer. I am going to the anime convention in august and i have to do some images for that (i need money... more whoring XD) and i also have commissions due for gaia, which are all anime-esque. I never realised how much it cost to work on minimum wage and live away from home. I am like... poor poor. My mom bought me KD (HAHAHAHAHAHA... gotta be KD. My name is Kadi. Pronounced the same way... its funny)

First pic i did of Mechanne and Azura. I hope my storyboard book came today! I really want to read it and start on my animatic XD

I visited my family this weekend, so no new drawing. I did watch Ratatouille for the second time, and unlike Pirates 3, it didn't bore me the second viewing.

And I saw Transformers. And anyone who is male and watched the show in the 80s will love it.

Since I don't fit either... OK SO I LOVED IT TO BITS TOO. OMG EXPLOSIONSS!!!! OMG SOUND OF TRANSFORMERS TRANSFORMING. Ok i am such a geek...

I WANT TO SEE HARRY POTTER SO BAD. And the book too!!!

Oh, and The Golden Compass is coming out in November. THAT is the movie i am really excited to see. Its an excellent book series I read when I was around 10 or so... I loved it and rereading it is just as amazing and enjoyable.

^--- Other hair-dos for Azura. I dunno, i kinda like the simple short one on the next page...

^--- Quickly coloured in Mechanne and Azura. Mechanne is the darker skinned, pink girl who is a weapons specialist. She calls up giant bazookas made of bamboo and stuff. And giant mallets. And she fights with her fists when she runs out of weapons. She's spunky and courageous and falls instantly in love with Sake, the
fisherman.

Azura is a mage in training, and she specializes in water and ice based attacks. So she has tsunami's of doom and so on. XD She's more of the calm, level headed type, but Mechanne's interest in Sake pushes her over the edge.

I have WAAAY too much fun with these too XD

Some sketches;

I saw Ratatouille tonight! It was AMAZING. First of all, there were NO trailers or commercials, save one for Wall-E (which looks really cool BTW) and then a really cool shot, called "Lifted" which had some really great animation and was a riot.

Then Ratatouille started. First of all, the art direction in this film is absolutely phenomenal. My first thought was "sooooo pretty" but I was soon sucked in to the plot of the movie and forgot about how pretty it was. The old lady at the beginning... man I loved her and this DEFINATELY is a general audience film, not a kids movie. Its so amazing!

The animation of all the characters was amazing and the backgrounds were just beautiful. I am so inspired by this movie. Also, I feel that I should work even harder, not just so I can aspire to work at this company, but feel worthy of even wanting to work there.

And there is 2D animation at the end.

OMG. This is my favourite movie from Pixar.

Sketch done on first day of my internship. I do storyboards (well, I TRY to do storyboards) fun and I am learning TONS!!!!

I cant wait to go home, im going to start work on my final flim for next year (we dont have to do one but i want to do one... and i am not majoring in animation LOL)

My tablet is dead T_T I need to buy a new one but i cant afford one for three weeks since i will owe my landlady two months rent on june first.

I won the Story Developement position for the Bardel Mentorship. So that means that I am staying in Vancouver.

YAY! but kinda sad too, because i won't see my family all that often.

Finished one of the character's in my final model pack. Gosh darn, colouring shure takes a rooting tootin long time!!! HA HA HA. Cowboy slang for the win.

Ummmmmm..... I have problem posing men, and I made him have exceptionally long, skinny legs so THAT helps. NOT. Hopefully, I can figure it out tomorrow, get some/all my cleanlining done, so that all I have to do is complete the colouring on two other characters, and do the lining on another two and then colour them. AHHHH. There are only 8 DAYS LEFT before this project is DUE!!!!!

SOOOO.... I needed to update. Since I haven't in *GASP* A WEEK OMG.

This is a character in my model pack THE VILLIAN OOO. His name is Alpha and he's just a flunkie. And oh yeah, he's the twin brother of the main character. He was locked in the dungeon for all of his life until just recently, when they LET HIM OUT. Yeah, and he's a psychopathic maniac that is hellbent on killing his slightly older twin sister and taking the throne for himself. Did I mention he was a Raging Rabies Prince? (i don't even know what that is myself)

This is Brian O'Brien, the local Blacksmith. Also an alien, I'm thinking part gorrilla, part fire monster. Savvy? He's sorta like a surrogate father to Omega and gives her a lot of good advice. She goes to him a lot, to talk and make new weapons out of old school supplies. Brian O'Brien made her Omega symbol belt (O'Brien's Belt anyone? *pelted by tomatoes*)

This is Rothgar (Full name William Ophelia Rothgar Minor AKA WORM). He runs the post office of the town of Terra, and he fancies himself an outlaw, so he holds postage ransom. He's sneaky, conniving, and afraid of loud noises. He's a lousy shot with a gun and freaks out in most situations. He tries to save face but most everyone regards him as a loudmouthed busybody snob. They don't particularily like him, but begrudgingly don't kill him, as he is the only human being in the town (and therefore the only human ambassador to the refugee camp) and would be missed by the powers that be. I love him. He's SNARKY.

I'm going to try a different way of colouring these guys tomorrow. I'm saddling my computer up to my car and taking a drive down to my friends house for Easter. YEE HAW.

EDIT: Needed to do something NOT relating to cowboys or aliens. I chose strawberries.

They have retarded names. The girl is Priscilla, or Prissi for short, and the horse is Angelus Michaelangelo David and you have to call him by all of his names. ^--- Um, this is kind of an important picture. I'm going to try and go out on a little bit of a different design limb and combine western and alien/space age fashion instead of keeping the two seperate. Still unsure of the new look, but Its definately growing on me.

She needed big hair because she's hiding four tentacles on her head (shes part squid alien) so hte two large ponies work with that (two tentacles a pony)

Ok, so i changed my mind. I love my Ebony Black story, but its very nature is to be that of a storybook and not an animated television show, so it just wasn't working. She needed to be more detailed than i was allowing myself and i went away from what i wanted to do.

So, back to Omega, who is still my favourite. Who doesn't love a main character who is thrown off her planet because she thinks men are icky? and then proceeds to land in a city that is holding several dozen townsfolk who are not as they seem (alien refugees)? and the cows are blocky and are well... I need to illustrate them for you. Words fail me.

There. And Omega is a tactical and scientifical and physical genius. Well, shes just a genius. And she has a twin brother named Alpha, who is forced to live in a jail cell because he was born second and now that Omega is gone, is reveling in the glory of being the NUMBER ONE SON!!!!! So he's evil. Even though it kinda should be the other way around... OH WELL.

And Omega's belt is the symbol for Omega, which, oddly enough, is similar to the shape of a horseshoe. It has special powers that even i don't know about.

The other characters in my model pack are, as follows:

*Bill Minor, Outlawed Post Office Worker; afraid of guns; Human

*Alpha "Al" Aries, heir apparent to the Throne of War; Alien

*Brian O'Brien, saloon owner/local drunk (its just juice, i swear!!!); Alien Refugee. Resembles a mutated goldfish crossed with a monkey.... or something odd like that. (both his human-suit and alien versions will be drawn)

*Herd of Cows, made of milky goodness! Look don, Quadrepeds!!! They're not really anything special... or are they? they enjoyed a previous life being space manatees and their milk powered the milky way. YES THEY ARE THE ULTIMATE POWER AS WE KNOW IT.

And finally, Omega herself.

She is the local sheriff, considered a "loose" woman because she wears pants and is generally looked down upon by all members of the community as she is rude, obnoxious and snooty, all at the same time. They couldn't really help choosing her as sheriff... maybe that weird helmet she had everyone wear has something to do with it...

She also has an alien version. Which has tentacles, because she is a squid. And i will draw her "true" form, where she is fully a cute squid!!!!!

The squid form is the weakest of her forms, weaker even than her fully human form. She only reverts to the squid state if she's badly injured or sick. and she's probably a cute teal green with purple square spots XD

...I really want to draw the cute squid now.

AND BRIAN O'BRIAN HAS TO BE A GIANT JELLYFISH!!!!!!

Another try at ebony. She has my favourite eyes thus far. Still owrking on making her body as interesting as her face, and im trying to simplify her shapes so when i have to put her in to flash, she actually works.
